Our Mission

Dedicated to Enhancing Pedestrian Safety and Accessibility for Everyone

Suzette May is a pedestrian safety specialist and a crucial bridge between vulnerable road users and traffic professionals. Based in Waco, Texas, she collaborates with municipalities, agencies, designers, and engineers to improve accessible pedestrian infrastructure and consults on blind pedestrian safety.
Suzette brings a unique perspective: both as a blind pedestrian who relies on Accessible Pedestrian Signals for safe, independent travel, and as someone who is actively engaged in research and national policymaking. Suzette serves on national and state committees, including the Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AERBVI) Environmental Access Committee, the Janet Barlow Initiative Committee, the American Council of the Blind’s Pedestrian Environmental Access and Transportation Committee, and she chairs the American Council of the Blind of Texas Transportation Committee. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Disability Studies, Magna Cum Laude and with Honors from Arizona State University, where her research focused specifically on Accessible Pedestrian Signals, and she is pursuing a Master’s in Orientation & Mobility at Western Michigan University. Traveling with her Seeing Eye Dog, Fred, Suzette champions a world without physical and societal barriers, including low expectations and negative stereotypes.

Our Roots are Personal, Our Work is Professional

Suzette May, LLC was built on years of hands-on advocacy, systems-level collaboration, and real-world experience navigating inaccessible streets. What began as a local push to improve pedestrian safety in Waco has grown into a trusted consulting firm helping transportation professionals nationwide design safer, more inclusive infrastructure.

Led by founder Suzette May—a legally blind pedestrian safety advocate and national committee member—we bring a lived perspective shaped by collaboration with traffic engineers, municipal leaders, and urban planners. Our work elevates both awareness and implementation of accessibility standards, helping agencies move beyond compliance to create environments where all pedestrians can move with safety, dignity, and confidence.

A woman walks confidently down a sidewalk with her German Shepherd Seeing Eye dog. She is wearing a flowing maroon blouse and navy pants, holding the dog’s harness handle in her left hand. The Seeing Eye dog walks attentively beside her wearing a leather Seeing eye guide harness. A brick wall and building are visible in the background, suggesting an urban or downtown setting.
